IAS officer salary after 7th pay commission

Earlier, the pay of an IAS officer was fixed with the system of “Pay Grades for Civil Services”, but now ‘Consolidated Pay Levels’ has been introduced in the 7th Central Pay Commission . So, now the IAS salary and pay scale in India will be decided on the ‘Basic Pay’ along with DA, TA and HRA. That is why the salary of an IAS officer even at the entry level will be excellent .

IAS Grade Pay

IAS salary per month in India is divided into 8 grades with different pay scales and grade pay. Each level is also associated with the years of service required.

  • Junior Scale:  IAS pay scale is Rs 50,000 – 1,50,000 with Grade Pay Rs 16,500. This is entry-level with no years of service required.
  • Senior Time Scale: 50,000 – 1,50,001 with grade pay of Rs 20,000. 5 years of service is expected.
  • Junior Administrative Grade:  Pay scale Rs 50,000 – Rs 1,50,002 with grade pay Rs 23,000. Years of service required are 9 years.

The highest level is Cabinet Secretary grade, with a pay scale of Rs 2,50,000 (fixed) and varying years of service.

IAS  Salary Per Month

As per the latest 7th Pay Commission, the starting and entry level IAS officer salary is ₹56100 per month, which translates to ₹56100 – 132000 per month. After years of service and each promotion, IAS salary in India increases per month. The highest post of being Cabinet Secretary of India is around ₹250000 per month. This is after 37+ years of service as an IAS officer. IAS Offier Salary per month also includes DA which is 9% which comes to Rs 2.5 lakh + 9% per month or approximately Rs 32.7 lakh per year.

UPSC IAS salary and allowances

IAS Salary 2023 has many other allowances and components along with the basic pay. As per Seventh Pay Commission norms, HRA allowance is 24%, 16% and 8% . HRA is decided depending on the city in which you are posted. Apart from this, according to the 7th Pay Commission, HRA will be increased when DA crosses 50% and 100%. But there has been no increase in the transport allowance in the pay structure of IAS officers. DA which is 125% has been merged with TA.

After the UPSC exam , the salary of an entry level IAS officer without allowances like HRA, DA and TA will be Rs 56,100. The maximum IAS officer salary per month is the Cabinet Secretary salary which is ₹250000 INR. The IAS salary will be the same for all newly recruited IAS officers at the entry level, and it will increase with tenure and promotion. IAS salary and facilities

Security : Due to the high profile and often dangerous nature of the job, an officer is provided with a security guard for himself and his family. In cases of death threats, they are also given STF commandos.

Accommodation : IAS officers are allotted accommodation at very low or no rent. They are also provided the services of cooks, maids, butlers, security guards, gardeners etc.

Transport : They are allotted vehicles with drivers for official purposes.

Subsidised bills : Officials generally receive highly subsidised water, electricity, phone connections and gas.

Travels : Officials also enjoy concessional accommodation in government guest houses when they visit Delhi. They can use the accommodation available in the respective state building.

Job Security : IAS officers enjoy job security as dismissing an officer is not easy, and the process requires extensive investigation and questioning as mandated by the Constitution.

Study Leave : Another amazing advantage of IAS officers is that they are officially allowed study leave of 2 to 4 years. They can also pursue courses in prestigious foreign universities, the expenses of which are borne by the government. IAS Promotion

Candidates who successfully complete all the stages of the UPSC selection process are recruited as IAS officers. They undergo various promotions and work throughout their service period. With each promotion, the salary of IAS increases. After completing the recruitment process, IAS officers are trained at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) , Mussoorie. After undergoing a training period the officers start working as SDM. SDM communicates with various departments of the government.

After working as SDM for some time, officers get promotion based on their skills.

IAS salary during training period

UPSC IAS officers undergo training at LBSNAA, which moulds them efficiently to take up future roles and responsibilities. The training period is very essential in the life of an IAS officer.
